An amendment put forth in Massachusetts that would ban gay marriage only needed 50 votes for it to be put to voters.
It was defeated.
Furthermore, people in Massachusetts have seen that gay marriage doesn't change anything, except grant civil rights to a minority, so citizens are becoming more and more comfortable with it.
Except for religious arguments, I don't see any sound argument against gay marriage, nor do I respect any non-religious arguments put forth against gay marriage. _________________ Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return - Leonardo Da Vinci |

Okay, getting in trouble with the Draconity.org staff for argueing this point I will just say this.
Religious groups usually try to put points against gay marriage because of the views on it from religious texts they follow, you see a lot of opposition to it because of the very large politically active Christian population here in the states, not like Europe which is more athiest and thus has less opposition.
I'll sit back for now, argueing my views may only bring trouble. _________________ Iseathielos Adismal, the green, blue, and yellow Dragon. This Dragon is me and what I believe myself to be, it is reality for me. |

While I may not personally like the lifestyle (I'm completely straight), I don't think that gays should be denied the rights that everyone else has. I have several friends who are gay, and I don't think I could live with myself if I voted against their ability to marry who they love.
I can, however, understand the religious arguments against this, and can respect them. Understanding and respect for beliefs does not mean that I concede to them, though. _________________ I use logic. Deal with it.

This isn't that site, and this is the debate forum, so go ahead id give it all you've got. Politely, of course.

It's not an atheist Vs. Christian movement. The difference between the US and Europe is that it has a large and active socially conservative population. Many other Western countries are far more socially liberal populations. _________________ To win against an opponent stronger than yourself, you must not be weaker than that opponent. - Takamachi Nanoha |

The US is indeed a lot more conservative than Europe for sure.
Do note there's liberal and conservative areas in the US as well. For example the Northeast is more liberal and various areas of the Midwest and South are more conservative. My state, for example, is full of conservatives, when the gay marriage ban was voted on every county but one voted for it. _________________ Iseathielos Adismal, the green, blue, and yellow Dragon. I live in a conservative area, as well. Arkansas is smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt. Gay marriage has been banned, here, too, but I was too young to vote at the time it was put to ballot. _________________ I use logic. Deal with it.

I think the next few states that'll legalize gay marriage will be New York, California, and so on. It'll take longer for Arkansas, Texas, Kansas, and other more conservative states to legalize gay marriage.
I think for many of those states, a Federal legalization might come before hand, just like a federal legalization of interracial marriage came in 1969, but it wasn't until the 90s that the state law against interracial marriage was taken off the books in Alabama. _________________ Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return - Leonardo Da Vinci |

I'm for legalizing it, UNLESS it is a celebrity marriage. For the good of society, celebrity marriages should not be allowed. _________________ The statement below this one is false.
