Are black dragons really evil or just misunderstood?

My kind was a golden-yellow. We certainly don't fit into the idea that color= personality, especially since ALL shinoar were the same color.

I think that black dragons have a choice. We all are evil inside in a way of speaking. We all have darkness and it's whether we embrace our darkness or not. A human chooses who it is. Saying a black dragon has to be evil is like saying a black person has to be a slave.
Many black dragons believe they have to be evil, like many people think that they must believe in god or Buddha or whoever. Every dragon and every human has the ability to chose and unless they have been brainwashed, they don't have to do anything.

Well that would be in a sense that the dragon was born with that color and will remain that color for life.

Some dragons though could be born a rainbow of colors and as they develop their own set of beliefs and personalities they change to the color that reflects it. I am only saying it as a possibility though for it is a possibility that I am just a deranged person who thinks dragons exist.

Well I don't think all black dragons are evil. I'm a jet black dragon with blue eyes, but I'm not evil. I don't think it is your color that makes you evil, it's who and what you grow up with. I would have been a different sort of dragon if my mom was not a nice person and loved me.

Somebody has probably already said this... but im gonna say it anyway. I think people assume black dragons are evil simply because of their colour, goes back to why we consider black to be evil and white to be pure and good. This probably dates back to apartheid and our own subconsious ideas of white supremacy. If you look back at all the old stories, the white dove is meant to be freedom, people think darkness is evil, black white black white etc... So people subconsiously relate black to being evil, because thats just the way we have been brought up.

Actually it depends upon culture. White is often the color of death and evil spirits as well.

The reason why black is often seen as a scary color goes way beyond a mere 300 years or less ago.

Light keeps predators at bay, humans can't see well in the dark, unlit caves can mean drops into the abyss. People vanish in the night.

I've been making up this story with my friend Anthony. In the beginning a girl accidentally sets her house on fire in her sleep. They move to a new town and she learns she has evil powers of darkness but instead uses them for good. Then her darkness powers make her try to kill her friend who has powers of light but she realizes that she doesn't have to be bad.
