I see many colorful names, But what I am refering to is a dragon that has wings, arms and legs and is not quite as large as a Wyvern.

Four legs and a pair of wings makes a traditional western. Two arms, two legs and a pair of wings makes an anthropomorphic traditional western. And not as large as a wyvern can be pretty small. Some stories about wyverns make them smaller than horses.

Nnn... unless you believe this nonsense I read about in a dragon book I got recently (and half-regretted), stating that there are wyverns living in Africa who are big enough to carry around adult elephants. Mad That was just dumb. There's a reason after all why animals (especially on land) can't get too big.

Over here that book is £20! From what you guys say it isn't that good and I wasn't that impressed, although the art and layout is great.

I would like to throw the environment hat into the mix. Due to food supply, amount of other dragons or predators in an area can cause size differences. Look a the mini mammoth fossils found on a small island off the west coast of the Americas.

lol... Yes it was Dragonology now that I've dug it back up again. I can't really judge whether the book can be labeled as "good" or "bad", but it's just some of the weird things in there were just silly!

Precisely. Vegetarians are able to grow larger than pure carnivores overall though, so rather than try to get too big (and thus require more food) it would make more sense for a bunch of smaller dragons to work together to bring down an elephant.
By contrast, a dragon who feeds on rodents and bugs would prefer to remain small so as to not get too big for such meals to make any difference and at the same time allow for skill at hiding from larger predators.

if it is from pure mythology, yes, that describes the "typical" European dragon. However, amongst artists and otherkin, there are those who use/had the same stance as the theropod dinosaurs. These, subsequently, look very little like the bulkier dragons of quadrupedal stance and can't really be classified as being the same.

You forgot a lot of types of dragons.
It also depends of your definition of dragon, do you only count the huge serpents with wings and legs, or you incluse also hydra, the feathered amphiteatre, Xing-lu, ...

Or some more serpent alike, for example Wyverex?
