then again, there are vast deep caves that have running water, caves not even explored yet with such a situation where the water would be sufficient.. I think it is easy to say that the water supply is not a big problem, it is possible in other words.. Not probable, but possible.
As for food deep underwater.. there are layers in the ocean, in the top having organisms that require or use the sun for energy supply.. these layers mix though, they move up and down, fish in certain layers for instance will venture lower, into the dark, creatures in the dark will eat these fish and take their energy..
As Raya said, not all bacteria's or creatures need oxygen and/or sunlight to survive. Though the information that without oxygen or sunlight, the conversion rate would be so inefficient isn't completely right, it depends completely on what the animal is adapt at.. Creatures in that situation will, through evolutionary changes have evolved to make the best of their energies, in any other situation they would be less productive and their conversion would be that low, but in their situation it is actually pretty high.
