Is it just me, or are gossips usually very stupid people? I mean, come on. What is the point of telling lies or secrets about other people? I can understand if it is a secret that can help someone if told, but lies? I really don't get it... Why does it also seem that most gossips also happen to be people that claim to be your friends? Does gossip subliminally make the world go round? Is it one of those unspoken rules that MUST be upheld or the world falls apart? Seriously... I personally think it is stupid and pointless. It irrititates the (pick your word) out of me!!!! Can't we all just mind our own business, stay out of other peoples affairs unless invited in, AND KEEP OUR MOUTHS SHUT??!!?? _________________ I'm me, you see, that's all I can be!! |

No, "we" can't, because that would require having some sensitivity which can be a rarity in some places. Like in certain public schools in Georgia. Rumors and gossip spread because a whole lot of people simply don't have anything to do with their lives, but another large part of it could be deliberate on the part of whomever starts a rumor.
I remember there was one person at my schools who just loved starting things up, from one-on-one arguments to county-wide controversy. (I won’t say his name but let’s just say he’ll go on to be a great lawyer. ;D) He particularly loved playing practical jokes on ME because he was one of few students in any of our public schools who was more cunning than I was, and I myself had a reputation of being feared by dumb bullies. Anyhow he started a rumor that I owned a Porsche and each weekend I would hire a bunch of half-naked supermodel-type girls to wash it for me—he even made a fake photograph!
The manipulation of it (containing “me” making a very strange pose next to the car) was very obvious. But the students in the school couldn’t help getting a laugh out of it anyway; not necessarily just because I was the target of the whole thing but because it was so ridiculous. It was common knowledge that I was a total nerd who didn’t care much for things like fancy cars and underweight female skeletons wearing swimsuits. Before long I was getting some really weird queries from various students of both genders and it didn’t take me long to track down the culprit. When I demanded an explanation of why he’d done what he did he just grinned at me and shrugged. :P
Another common cause behind starting up rumors is revenge. The above example didn’t really hurt me or anything as much as it did confuse me, but the guy behind it could have certainly come up with something much worse if that had been his intention.
As for the really REALLY weird gossip topics, the ones about Britney Spears and such that appear on AOL and wherever else… I have no explanation for the whys and wherefores behind that material. _________________ The statement below this one is false.

I agree with the idea that revenge sometimes starts rumours. And jealousy. I don't care for gossip, the only way I'll necessarily believe it is if the person who the gossips is about tells me that it's true. Might.
Rumours get twisted easily. There was one going around at my school about one of my mates kissing this boy, and then... well, you can guess what it changed to after a couple of days. I never listen to rumours, I've also had my own experience, though not quite as bad as yours Hyraxlos.
A rumour started going round that my best mate was my girlfriend, that i was a lesbien. When people just ask we play up to it... hey, its funny doesn't really bother me. I had this little kid as me if i were gay, i said yes, he asked me if she was my girlfriend, i said yes. He just nodded and walked away! i was like, wtf? urm... okay then if it makes you happier... >.> Well, it's not like they're gonna believe me if i go all defensive and scream "NO!" in their face.... _________________ â– Inquisitor Lavellan â–
