|
|
I have heard a lot of controversy surrounding the Horde being the things a dragon values most in life.
It is my view that what is most valued to any dragon is its mate, as we all know how immense a task and the ageless power of the bond shared between dragons and their mates.
HOWEVER, at the same time while holding this belief, i personally have a hoard of coins and pieces of "treasure" in a corner of my dwelling. The way i see it, A dragon desires a hoard of things, gold, coins, ect, in the same manner a human desires a home, a job, ect. It is a comforting aspect that draws them and a mark of the home.
Does anyone have any thoughts or comments to add? I always enjoy a good discussion |

I know I hoard stuff, mainly dragon related art, coins and gems, but I don't think that's what's being asked.
Material stuff is nice, but it's not something I *need*. Although I would go crazy if someone messes with my stuff.
I think the question is: What is the truth about hoarding. I think dragons might have hoarded stuff (depends on the dragon), but the media throughout history has greatly exaggerated this. I do know it's true for me up to some point. |

Your statement brings up something important as well, I've noticed that while its a common theme among dragons to hoard things that draw their attention, it is far from a physical requirement. Instead it is more of a subtle urge or compulsion that is omnipresent and deeply personal.
You are also right in the media's exaggeration of the nature of hoarding, though as you yourself said it IS true to a point. |

I think hoarding is psychologically not a comforting thing at all, if you as a dragon has a hoard, then every time you are away (and you live in a cave or whatever), you fear for your hoard. Especially if you have a connection with your hoard.
The hoard to me seems a very troubling aspect of dragon life, because the bigger it gets, the more it forces the dragon to stay in one place. But if threatened by something very deadly, he/she would still have to leave and then leave a lot of that hoard behind as well... Which of course would suck muchly.
Ageless bond between dragons and their mates ?
I'm really unsure where you got this, I know of dragons who are mates (as otherkin of course) who believe they have a stronger bond than any humans. Of course this is impossible to say, because there is no way to measure such a bond :P _________________ Avatar by Vanodalv. Wooh |

After two unsuccessful mates, I have resigned to the fact that I will probably never have that type of treasure. But I still have 2 beautiful kids and seeing them happy fulfills some of it. I still have my hoards and 2 cats that keep me company. _________________ Look into the eyes of the dragon and it will reveal your soul.... |

y'know, if you wondered deeper (i wish i didnt) you would have though that dragons didnt have much to do during the days of old. hoarding is probably one of the most popular "hobbies" after idiotic knights marching pitfully in their shiny armor up to the dragons and getting melted in the searing fire of the mighty dragon breath. after that, it'll be obvious to gather the remains of the knight's loots. think of it like some video game. a knight player gets cocky and fights a lvl 150 dragon and loses all of his loot, gold, and armor. the dragon gathers the loot and well, becomes a hobby since theres a lot of knights trying to prove emselves.
oh wait sometimes a dragon likes melting people, hoarding could become a passion and eventually something psychologically hard to break apart just to hunt.just like WoW (ahhh and think of all the stress relieved from forcibly ripped apart due to a simple memory space problem) _________________ Really, you should know better than steal a bowl of ramen from a Dragon.. *slu-u-u-rp* |

I can imagine being a dragon can be hard too. Hunting doesn't seem like an easy thing to do, so I think that would take a lot of time too. Even if a dragon would encounter humans, why would a dragon want (rusted) armor? Also, why would a human take all his expensive items with him if he knows he'll be fighting a dragon? That's just more stuff to carry around.

thats just the way it is. they ARE cocky and arrogant. (good thing we melted em long ago, ahaha ) hey wait they do bring their best stuff because it's either win OR die. if you bring something like rusted bronze armor, youre surely either very cocky or stupid. _________________ Really, you should know better than steal a bowl of ramen from a Dragon.. *slu-u-u-rp* |
