Steel hidden beneath
A thousand-headed dragon
Closes the world's eyes
My first haiku in English. |

I do have a question for all those involved both in this contest, and others. Every other online contests I have entered had deadlines, if so when are the deadlines on these contests?
the other question is who's judging them? _________________ say hello! at zahz's keep;P |

Set it up to 50 haikus. It's been going for more than a year anyway.
As for judges, I propose you. You are one of the most qualified people for such a job here. Though that means you can't participate in the contest.
Or Syrobe, since she hasn't created a haiku yet , though she said she would on the first page. |

humm i find it odd, an a little impolite that you would suggest I drop out of a contest that I joined as a contestant and went through the effort of writing four entrees for, when I am engaged to live sleep and work with Dark who has also made 2 submissions, and considering I have counted a good number of sdb's poets and artists among my good friends... even talking to them frequently off site. I cannot help but think that this may wind up letting biases color my decisions as a judge. On that note alone I must cordially decline the opportunity to be a judge.
It is also odd that you would tout my skill in poetry before suggesting I drop out to judge, and I am curious about some things:
Does this suggestion have as much to do with familiarity with reading and writing poetry, as it does with the sort of remarks and feed back I get from others on my writings that compare them to the works of some of the great name in the genre?
If this is the case... perhaps it would seem a bit unfair to some others have to compete against multiple pieces I have written, even though those pieces are/ were rather forced out, and thus are quite possibly far from being prime examples of my best works. _________________ say hello! at zahz's keep;P |

The problem with this contest is that no rules were defined in the begining. So now I see that it is rather foolish to try to establish rules after so many entries. Since some have posted multiple haikus, some do not qualify as haikus etc. And I was insensitive and hasty by proposing you remove your entries just to judge in a contest where you can hardly be completely unbiased. I'm sorry for that.
I actually have no idea what do with this contest, except canceling it altogether, moving the haikus to a suitable forum and possibly starting a new, clearly-defined contest.
What do the rest of you think? |

Perhaps we should let it run about another month, trim out the non Haiku poems. Let Syrobe pick the top entry by each contestant. And in a poll where contestant names are not listed, let the community as a whole choose the winner.
Admittedly this means this thread would have to be removed, and a record kept of the names of the Haiku's authors as well as in some cases the Haiku's title. But it would perhaps be the best way to judge them objectively. _________________ say hello! at zahz's keep;P |

| So you mean just assigning numbers to selected haikus and let dragonstars vote for haiku 1, haiku 2 etc? I've made a copy of the entire thread on my computer, and will continue to update it till the end of the contest. Then it will just poof away for a while, just so that people can forget who wrote what. The we'll have the poll. |

we should warn all members who did enter before we do so. especially those with multiple entrees. They may want to save a copy of each before they disappear. _________________ say hello! at zahz's keep;P |
