I thought this might be fun to do. What makes you believe in dragons? What is your proof that they exist/ that you are one? Have you seen one, seen yourself as one, found a tooth or claw on the ground, in the water, on your bedroom floor?

Only rules: Tell the truth and no calling someone out even if you know it's ridiculous.

Some reasons might be silly or hard to believe, or are just on that personal level that only you can understand. Great! That is what will make it fun!

*************************************************************

Okay, I'll go first for example and do both. I believe in dragons because...
fundamentally the fact that dinosaurs existed millions of years ago and that is just mindblowing at all the possibilities that come up if they all didn't die out. There could be secrets in some of those first couple of millions of years that won't leave behind fossils. ^_^ Plus, if there is just one otherkin out there that isn't crazy...it is still more than none.

I believe I am a dragon because...
I have felt phantom limbs, and once saw my wings in the reflection of a window (course it was at 3 in the morning). When I get scared I hiss and crouch for attack rather than jump back, and it feels like my scales are standing on end for more protection. It just fits my life. Knocking over bookshelfs, getting caught on couches and tables that I swore were a good foot away. How crowds of people seem to always give that little extra space. Or being able to take a hit by kids on bikes, tire swings, a fridge, cars or a garage door (it was wood, metal, and wire spring loaded, broke, it hit me in the face, flew down the driveway, and got 2 stiches in my lip). Spiritually, it just feels right but I don't have anything beyond that at the moment. Hopefully some else can.

To me, the ultimate verification that dragons are real is the concept of Dragonkinism. I've yet to receive any verification that I am an Otherkin, and I very much doubt that I ever will. But to be fare, the idea that people have memories of past lives and that two people who knew each other as dragons have met in their human forms is proof of dragons existing / having existed somewhere.

Prior to visiting this site and discovering what Otherkinism was, my beliefs were based mainly on blind faith. Even if dragons had originated as a fairytale, mankind has made them so much more, and the legends have even been given many new dimensions over time (riders, etc.).

If I had to give a personal reason for my faith in their existence, it would be this: I always used to have fantasies about me being a dragon rider, and the idea of dragons seemingly came out of nowhere. I'd really preferred other types of monsters over dragons up until one point, where I began envisioning myself as a rider. This was before I started reading dragon stories. As a rider, I saw myself establishing mental communications between me and my dragon. It was a while after this time that I discovered that many popular books (Eragon, Dragonriders of Pern) involve telekinesis between dragons and their riders. So while it's probably just a coincidence, I managed to tap into the general law of Dragon Riding merely with my imagination.

How can I prove my spirituality, eh? That's easy for me to answer. Laughing

I can't. End of story. Cool I can't even prove that this post was written by a real human being in the full scientific definition of the word "proof".

I have a question, did stories about dragons pop up in stories all around the world at the same time or did dragons come to each country individually? If they came at the same time that would mean at least one of the stories must be true.

Science doesn't prove anything.. Math can prove things though :P

The best you can do is provide information that will make it the best assumption there possibly is.

That doesn't really fit well you know.. Why would it matter if all stories came at the same time (or era) ?. Just because those stories exist, doesn't suddenly mean any of them were real on earth at all, because apart from stories (which might have a spiritual basis) there is nothing that provides support for any belief in dragons having existed on earth at all.

If you want some nice interesting facts about dragons and their appearance in stories all over the world, look up : Dragons by Dr Karl Shuker (a natural history)
It has the best information packed up in a good looking book ^^

Which brings me to my own answer of the question asked:

1. I believe in dragons simply because I had a spiritual awakening that was strong enough for me to accept that there is more "out there" then I understand or realize.. This awakening and the experiences I have are always a bit doubtfull in my mind.. But I believe 100% that dragons exist... Just not physically or atleast not physically on earth.

2. no proof, its all personal belief.. What proof do you have of your soul existing ?..

I don't believe dragons are real, I know they are. Whether on earth or some other planet. Just look at the night sky, how can someting that big have only one planet with intelligent life? I don't think that's very possible...Especially when there is more than one galaxy. To say they don't exist due to lack of physical proof leaves way too many variables open. They are there. It's just up to the dragons wanting to show themselves or not. And quite frankly, if I were them I wouldn't. The human race is too curious for it's own good and will someday destroy itself. I think The Outer Limits put this perfectly in one episode:

Final Exam
Opening Control Voice: "They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. But what of the man who possesses too much knowledge?"
Closing Control Voice: "If knowledge is power and power corrupts...how will humankind ever survive?"

As for me being one, I'd have to say no. Just part of my personal beliefs.

And math proving things?...Depends who's looking at the numbers xP I'm not a very math literate.

I'm writing in this thread because it kinda goes a long with whats happening in my life. I recently tried to join another forum and they wanted to know my beliefs on Dragons. I explained that I felt I was a dragon that has been on this earth for 1448 years and has taken on the shape of a human. Desu Vu ( sorry spelling) has been a big part of my existence. As a 48 yr old man I have felt that I have been to places and have done things that can't be explained. George Patton had similar visions about being on battlefields hundreds of years before he was born. Some say he was one of the best military minds in the world, where as some called him a madman.

To make a long story short they asked for Proof of this shape shifting Dragon and rejected my application to their forum.
They said that my beliefs would not be excepted without Proof.

I don't know it's kinda like the God thing. If you ask someone who is very religious they say without a doubt it is real and no one argues about it.
