Last night Master attempted to persuade me to leave the forum by appealing to my depression, a maneuver that I consider to be very "below the belt". The two main arguments were that most of my old friends have moved elsewhere or vanished outright, and that he thought the forum was somehow "degenerating". One at a time I suppose.
Let's see... There's been Arngrim, Cyborg Dragon, JoeCapricorn, Celtore, Tysha, Rogwell, Salaiek, Tealeon, VoxDraconis, TigressoftheWind, Jenu, ZucaTreangeli, Shadow Dragon, Spitfire, and whomever else I might be forgetting right now. The sudden loss of CD hit me pretty hard, and when Celtore told me she was done I seriously considered leaving too. Then Reason (my favorite emotion-aspect of myself; the one who gave Hate the boot) spoke up and, as always, fixed everything.
How would leaving fix this problem? Unless all these people left exclusively because of ME (not likely; they would have left me a PM with some criticism on the way out), I step back and think about it and can't imagine why ditching this place would bring anyone back. Actually it was some of the aforementioned people who motivated me to come here. Just because they're gone doesn't mean I should. And if I want to see them badly enough I can sign on to another forum like Rashan's where many of my old friends ("old" as in "pre-SDB") are currently active. It's not like joining one forum will automatically kick me off another, or else I would have said my goodbyes here before joining DeviantART.
As for my other half's second point... "degenerating"? With the first argument my immediate feeling was "ho hum, maybe you're right..." but with this one I was merely puzzled and didn't have to put up as much of a fight. When I asked him what he meant he dodged around, leaving me to consider his possible meanings.
Trouble with other members? ............No, not really. Not strongly enough that it would pop up as an issue in my argument with the annoying disembodied voice in my head. If something happens then I can just argue it out and that'd be that.
Maybe he was trying to say that SDB was going "stale" somehow. Well... so what if it was? Forums DO have their boring moments sometimes, but they also have their vibrant heavily-populated periods as well. It's like a seismograph. (is it 'graph' or 'gram'?) If I do get bored with this community, then sure I can disappear FOR A WHILE. And I have. Then I came back, and things had already started up again while I was gone. So what? Go to another forum? What forum DOESN'T go stale periodically? Would I even want to be part of a community where people are always arguing? *thinks* Umm, ok, maybe besides YouTube... Anyone besides me enjoy political fireworks? Just wait until my webcam arrives.
My shadow was starting to get a bit pissed off at me by now. :Then why did you leave the previous forum you stupid ape!?: Hmm, lemme think back on that... Oh yes, now I remember:
1. I got into a huge fight not just with any member, but with an administrator.
2. I believed that said administrator (and possibly a couple of moderators) were trying to censor my complaints and criticisms, though looking back on it I too was acting pretty paranoid at that point. Possibly I was mistaken.
3. I felt bitter that they hadn't reversed the decision (which to this day I still feel adamantly certain was totally wrong) and weren't willing to reconsider.
4. Despite my anger I felt guilty for inappropriately blowing up at the very onset, rather than gradually working my way up to full outrage which I should have done. Lots of people were pretty annoyed with me for perfectly justified reasons.
5. I felt ashamed of my inability to remember to see the other side's perspective during the argument. I have to be sterner with myself on remembering that in the future; how else can I be certain that I fight on the correct side for the right reasons?
6. Master told me NOT to leave. I think he wanted more fighting. Screw him. There's a place for thermonuclear thread-war and it's called YouTube.
Let's see now, how many of these criteria are fulfilled for what would be a GOOD reason to leave Silver Dragon Breath permanently? The total I've got checked off the above list is........... zero! How about that! I don't feel sufficiently that there have ever been any problems here that wouldn't just go away with time. And so what if someone leaves? There's still a steady flow of new people joining up.
As for the aforementioned vanished members... Where do you think you're going?? Get back here! The entire universe revolves around ME and I did not grant you permission to go anywhere! Draquenvar, quit wasting your time either lurking around or chatting with just me and POST something already--like maybe some funny videos you've watched! And YOU! Reading this thread right now while trying to decide whether or not to join, whoever you are! If you've been slinking around for the past month or so then just go ahead and sign up! You don't have to be otherkin to join, you don't have to be insane, and you don't have to pay any money. And don't give me any of that "zomg I'm too shyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy *whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!*" nonsense!
Whew........... That felt good. _________________ The statement below this one is false.

Heh, that was a great read. People do disappear periodically, often without saying a thing. Sometimes they just need to re assess their priorities and take a step back from something. (Like I did! I haven't even posted my I'm back thread XD).
Sometimes they'll come back, sometimes they won't. But whatever the case, we can hope they're happy right?
That really was a great read. ^___^ _________________ Everything's Possible, the impossible just takes longer. |

Thanks. I've been told that I should gather up every rant I've ever made on an internet forum and compile them all into a book. _________________ The statement below this one is false.
