Wouldn't that make your paper easier? In addition to whatever arguments you put forward about how such programs should be started, you could point at this one and say that more states need to do it too, see whether it's succeeding or not, and try to see if you can determine why from available information. I forgot to ask earlier. Would these cars need better cooling systems than what they've got? I'm not asking out of skepticism in this case; I just don't know that much about cars and I'm too, um, distracted (/preoccupied/lazy) to look more into it. Would combusting hydrogen into water generate a greater amount of heat?

Absolutely no idea, and I don't know enough about how to read the technical specifications to even begin comparing the innards of HFC vehicles to IC ones.

No, the car doesn't "burn" hydrogen, it "fuses" two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom in a controlled fashion, without producing much heat, and harvests electrical energy produced by the bonding. (I can go into great detail, but I don't feel like typing it all out at this moment. :P) This energy is then used to power an electrical engine, also creating relatively small amounts of heat. An internal combustion engine actually burns fuel, and uses its heat (and newly created pressure) to power the engine, creating lots of excess heat in the process. IC cars produce a lot more excess heat then a hydrogen car, so cooling is not really much of an issue.

The gas prices have been pretty insane lately, that's for sure. It's well over $4.00 right now where I'm at. And it doesn't look like it's going to be getting any better.

Lots of people I know have had to modify their lifestyle just a bit, so that they could manage these gas prices. We'll see what the future holds.

Price projections are currently estimating that gas will be at at leas $7 a gallon by Christmas, maybe if my car is totaled I can use that cash as a payment on a hybrid, or some other sort of car with better mileage. Terrible thing is though more efficient and cost effective options are out there, but the sad thing is availability is all too often extremely limited.

Examples: hybrid fuel, and hybrid electric, even today are high end options on most cars, there are only a few exceptions to this.

eclectics are hard as all heck to find and in many places electricity is still generated by burning fossil fuels.

and lastly: Dirty Secret: Green Cars Automakers Won't Sell You. again the greater efficiency is a high end option, but one that is only available to residents of specific states XD.

Sick thing about it is thanks to the clean air act ultra low emission vehicles are illegal for anybody, be it the automaker, the dealer or the original owner to sell out isde of California, New York and like six other states (namely those that adhere to California's stricter emissions laws.

well it has gotten to the point were Americans are stealing gas from farmers and other fields for the black market, they even say that the truckers are going to the black market to get the fuel cheaper. I personally don't blame them at all.

I do think everyone has a eye on the hybrids but my main concern for the hybrids is that what happens if water should get underneath the hood... wouldn't that be a large concern for a electrical hazard?

No.

what about hydrogen leaks... does the hybrids use flammable hydrogen or the non flammable type.. i can remember.

Hybrids use gasoline and batteries, not hydrogen.

As for fuel-cell vehicles, which do use hydrogen, there are different forms of hydrogen storage in the works, each with differing levels of "risk". The most basic of these is simply having a large tank to store liquid hydrogen (like what is currently done with gas), which would leave the hydrogen in a more explosive state, though the risks would be, at worst, about the same as with an ordinary gas tank in a modern car. As far as leaks go, since it takes more hydrogen than gas in the air to create an explosion and hydrogen diffuses more easily into the air, explosive concentrations are harder to reach, which means that that's not much of a danger either.
