Hi all,
Does anyone know the origin of the phrase "to kiss the dragon", meaning to face your fears or to do what you are scared of doing. I have seen one source which links it to an old Buddhist parable, but have been unable to find the parable itself.
Any help appreciated.

I've never heard it, but it's pretty self-explanatory. The dragon is a fierce and dangerous beast, to kiss one (or even to contradict one from a distance) is an incredibly brave thing to do in the eastern traditions. _________________ The Lichen grows slowly, atop of a rock.

| I thought that was a reference to the Opium dens of the 19th century? |

I heard about it and I do believe its like this:
Isle of Largo [I think its like a british place. I don't remember I just thought it was a sad myth for the girl]
The ruler of the isle of Largo was Ypocras[I think its spelt like that]. A goddess turned his daughter into a dragon, who was known by the people as the Lady of the Land. As a dragon she lives in a cave inside a castle. It is said that if a knight is brave enough to kiss her on the mouth, she will turn back into a human. Many knights have come to her, but all have fled in fear, leaving the Lady to cry alone. All of those who fled have died shortly afterwards.
I think thats the kiss of the dragon but I could be wrong maybe Lady of the Land but you do have to kiss her to help her. I kinda thing that be wild hehe. |

I'd kiss her . No, seriously though, I would if she was still in the castle although I don't think that will happen though. I mean, what do I have to worry about, I'm a dragon. _________________ I am trapped between heaven and hell. My wings carry me upon the winds. Above lies heaven, below hell. I have not heard the parable or the story. But I have heard the phrase used in the same reference. To face ones' fears.
I have shared the "kiss of the dragon". It is a rather formal greeting used by a certain court of worshipers of dragon lore. _________________ From you I receive to you I give
