| But what about the oil supply, i heard there's enough oil stored somwehre enough to power the country for a year. |
There's probably enough oil left for another decade or so, maybe a bit more if some of the more inefficient ways to get it (oil shale, for example), but the sooner we get off of it, the better. Oil may be somewhat renewable, but we're consuming it at rates that far surpass its ability to regenerate.
Coal is also a possibility if oil goes out, as modern technology can mitigate many of its effects, but in the long term, the only really viable option is to go green on a massive scale. _________________ To win against an opponent stronger than yourself, you must not be weaker than that opponent. - Takamachi Nanoha |

it will take ages to completely ween this world off of oil though. everything is run by oil. cars, trains, planes, ect. that's alot to get rid of and exchange for green vehicles _________________ I'm doing maintenance, and I'm still alive~ |

| That's all the more reason to get our butts moving. The world probably doesn't have ages. If the oil production would drop because most of the wells are running dry, there is no way of knowing what would happen to the economy. We've still got oil, and I think it would be smart to invest a lot in renewable energy sources, before energy prices skyrocket near the end of the oil age. |

What if they made solar powered vehicals? Then we would have all the energy we need. Yes perhaps the key is to enter the solar era, and drop. That would save a lot of money, at least till people start trying sell solar power. What do you think? _________________ The blood of that which you beleive run deep within, if you feel this then there is no need to doubt. |

The 2009 Prius is going to incorporate such a system, but only as a way to supplement the battery. Solar panels just aren't efficient enough to power a vehicle by themselves.
And as a side note, the numbers have been crunched and it would only take the equivalent of a 100*100 mile square of solar panels to power the entire US. Sounds like a lot, but what if you covered the tops of all buildings, the upper decks of parking lots, etc with it? Those areas are, for the most part, not used for anything, so they're just "wasted space." _________________ To win against an opponent stronger than yourself, you must not be weaker than that opponent. - Takamachi Nanoha |
