But why? Why can't these magical claims be given the benifit of the doubt? I don't like the "If I can't do it, and I don't know anyone who can do it, so that means you definately can't do it" attitude.
I like sites where otherkin stand up for each other and respect each other. Not shoot each other down with "prove it", or "you're lying". No one has seen these things because, well, think hollywood style, what would happen to any of us who showed everyone we could do these things? Capture, tests, questions, more tests, a life of slavery to science so everyone can understand it. No one wants to go through that. So I can understand why there is no proof. I would love to see some myself, but the fact there is so little makes it all the more intriguing.
So I may not belive everything everyone says, but I give people a chance. I belive anyhting is possible with the right amount of common sense and mental discipline. _________________ Those who need proof, don't deserve to know.

Better question: why should they, if they contradict with accepted reality? In a case like that, it's the job of the person making the claim to show that it's not just them making something up.

Me neither, which is why none of us say that. Asking for evidence to support an extraordinary claim is not saying that someone can't do it, but asking to be shown that it is, in fact, possible.

The only place where you'll see scientists doing that is Hollywood. Most places in the world, at least, those places where such research is done, have these strange things known as "rights", which protect individuals from things like what you're proposing.

As do we. Part of that chance is asking people to support their claims.

Guys…..dont get me wrong, I would LOVE to give you some evidence to support this phenomenon, but the sad and simple fact is; I can’t, I have none, and obtaining it would be extremely hard or next to impossible. It has only happened on about four different times. And as with all small flame, it extinguishes it self almost immediately, and the smoke, its thin and wispy, which is not the best for photographs. Also I said that it only happens when I am angry, I didn’t mean every day normal angry…I meant rip somebody’s throat out for talking back to you, angry. (Not that I would ever take it to that extreme.)I am not the kind of guy you see carrying a camera around in hopes that I will get angry. it’s okay if you don’t believe me, to tell the truth I don’t really care, just so long as you don’t come out and call me a lire, I am fine. Maybe Inuya (by the way, thanks.) is right, maybe it is just my minds eye, but all I know is that I saw smoke and fire. Its up to you weather you believe or not, but I wouldn’t stress my self out over it if I were you. _________________ you better watch it,

You're welcome my friend, and I agree. They don't have to believe you, but I do. If my eyes can turn colors and I become partially wolf when I'm angry then I see no reason why you can't breath fire. To me it makes perfect sense. A human couldn't do it, but perhaps a dragon in a human's body can.
(And by "partially wolf" I am not claiming that I make any sort of p-shift.) _________________ Those who need proof, don't deserve to know.

Mental shifts are a perfectly accepted phenomena in this community. Eye color changes easily with the amount of sunlight recieved to the iris, the clothes you are wearing, the surrounding decor and other people's perceptions of your mood. Turning straight up gold though would require the sudden appearance of new genetic sequences, coupled with the fact that it takes energy and time to remove and replace pigments in cells. So that I don't buy. Not until I've seen it in person.
Now, I *have* seen people with a lot of yellow in the iris, especially around the pupil that seems really intense when they're angry, but that's due to the way the pupil acts when someone is enraged. I used to have lots of yellow myself and that would happen. My eyes are now predominantly mint green, but some say blue and some say gray.
I do not believe everything because if we never questioned others assumptions we'd be chock full of "King of all the dragons" and I know that my kind did NOT have royalty of any type. Thus, that claim is instantly disproven. We'd also be full of p-shifters, and people growing wings, and people telekinetically moving their cars rather than buying gas, etc etc. This is known as "fluff". I am incredibly serious about my spirituality. Yes, I do believe in minor psychic abilities. The only thing I claim with a regular basis is Empathy, and mine is actually biologically based. I seem to have an odd form of mirror-touch synesthesia (though I feel like the person doing to the touching AND being touched) which seems to also pick up from nonverbal emotional cues and thus if people near me are angry, so am I. People near me are happy? So am I. If something near me is in pain..... so am I.
But major things? Not without proof. A mind too open lets the brain fall out. And besides, when something you didn't believe in gets proved to you, it's even more amasing than simply believing in the first place. |

You're right on that one. And If I had a webcam, I'd upload a video of my eyes, if i knew your address I'd go see you, if you have a cell phone I could send you a picture. I only claim things about myself I can prove.
And most people who really can do things don't claim they can do anything superflous. Someone who claims to be "king of the dragons" probably is a fraud, a person who claims to be telepathic proabably is not. What I'm saying is those of us who are otherkin say what we can do and it's usually not utterly impressive, where a fakers "abilities" are always flashy and hollywod style.
But when someone states a claim, one can say "I don't belive you without proof, but whatever do what you want, i don't care." or if one can prove it wrong then say something like "Sorry but this is what I know to be true" and explain it. Then I usually offer something like "well if you are or can do what you say but can't prove it on earth then perhaps you can do it astrally and you only think it's physical because you belive it so much."
I don't belive everyone all the time either, and certainly not people who claim to be the most powerful or the best or some sort of royalty, but that doesn't mean I'll tell them flat out that their wrong.
For example, on the vampire site, I was telling one of them about what I can do astrally. When he tried these things he astrally supassed me in power by a landslide. I told him I was jealous. Then he took it a step farther and told me he was the creator of the astral world. I did not belive that at all. So I started politely telling him facts that proved him wrong. like "If you are this thing than why didn't even know about the astral realm until I told you."
"I forgot when I was reincarnated," he said, I saw this as just a pitiful excuse, but I was nice and explained furthur as to why he was mistaken.
Then I finally said well maybe you created "an" astral realm, but not the whole thing; we all know a person can create a mental place where they can go. Then he gave up saying he wanted me to call him. This guy is several states away and I'm not about to call him. So I let the issue die. I know what I know, I belive what I belive, and he can just go do the same. To each his own you know? _________________ Those who need proof, don't deserve to know.

I feel a little guilty that I started all this controversy… I think it is odd how we are so willing to rip ourselves in to sides just because somebody says that they have something about them that most others don’t. It would seem that we sometimes forget that that WE (by which I mean otherkin.) have something about us that is different and special. Think about it, if we were to go and tell the general public that we were dragon, or werewolves, or what have you, the first thing we would be faced with is disbelief and ridicule. Then we would be faced with those two dreadful words: Prove It. And all we could say is; we can’t. Then without any hard evidence we would lose any credibility that we may have had, even though we KNOW that we are dragons, or werewolves, or what have you, the rest of the world would not believe us just because WE know what we are. I think it is sad, but it is true, there have been countless times that I have wanted to tell my friends and family that I am a dragon, but haven’t, for lack of evidence and fear of ridicule. I KNOW I am a dragon, I KNOW I saw fire and smoke, and I know that is the truth. _________________ you better watch it,

The thing is, our beliefs are a belief. We have no proof. No religion has proof. That's one thing we as a whole seem to forget as well. We. Could. Be. Wrong.
However.
Claiming a physically manifestable "power" does have the potential to be proved and thus, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. |
