I have not got the book yet, but I know the author well. He writes in a style that is a lot like the Pierce Anthony Xanth stuff, silly but a lot of fun at the same time. It's funny yet mature, and I can vouch at least for the author.

Well now I have read the book, and it is certainly well worth the time. The sequel, Dragon's Luck, is also a good read.
