Alchol is one of the worst ways out there according to every book on remidies for insomnia that I have read out there, don't use it as a sleepaid. when you wake up you will awaken sooner, fater having enjoyed a lower quality of sleep.

Ahh a subject on which I have had much experience Laughing I have trouble getting to and staying asleep. part of this I've always had part is from sleeping during the day due top the secdule i keep, , and partially due to the fact that when I twich or snore.... well lets just say I wake my self up.

My first bit of advice, if at all possible make your bedroom as calm a place as you can, your sanctuary if at all possible. Also keep it reserved for calmingand or quiet activties. keep the bed there for bed specific activties. Dont eat or watch tv from there. Speeking of your bed you may want to check your matress. A bad matress can be the source of many woes

Seditive teas, made with mint vallerian and hops work well sometiimes, also look for ones with Hibisicus, pasionfruit flower, chamomile and catnip. i find a bit of milk steamed with such teas in them some honey wrok nicely most of the time. Added bonus these herbal mixtures can often also reduce the discomfort assoceated with nausea and an upset stomach.
These often have names like stress reducer, sleepy time, goodnight, and sandman pm to name a few. You may want to avoid them though if you are alergic to raggweed as it is often found in close conjunction to chamomile

White noise mechines and ambient soundscapes, to soft slow classical, and even soft jazz can work nicely to produce a calm sleep induced state, if outside noice is dsturbing you. Annother good trick for this is noise cancling headphones cheap ones cost about $25-$30, click them on and it cancels out a good portion of outside noise, for added punch plug it into a radio tuned to static.

If it's light that bothers you you can use a sleep mask. one theat is cented with lavendat, hops, or rose have calming compouds in them, bu according to what I have read and heard the scent of hops clashes with that of lavendar.

Deep breathing excersixes work well too, but in order for them to work you need to do them right. I know this will sound weird: the right way is to draw it in as thoug your pulling your breath in starting at about the belly button, and filling your lungs from the abdomen and working your way up. but this has an effect far different than when you are just breathing deep "up" in the chest. Wink

A nice hot mineral bath is annother good way to unwind, adding a herbal mineral soaks partucularly those to deal with aches and pains cramps and muscle sorness help loosen mucsles and thus reduce tension, where as those desigined for alergise colds congestion have strong scents that clear your head and help you breathe better which can actualy help you slep better. A hot bath raises your bodytempture and often induces feelings of drowseyness as your body cools once you leave the bath. Oh the other good things about these soaks that I have found is my libs tend to twich less right as I'm drifting off and because my air passageways are clearer I breather easier and snore less. less snoring means less interuption to your sleep cycle.

also avoid energy drinks, and any other beverage or substance designed to increase your energy level for a few hours before bed.

Also try to set a regular secdule, and try as often as you can to be in bed between the hours of aprx 10 pm, to I believe it was 3 am (I'll have to try to drege up what I read on that study), the human body's biological clock is hard wired to be a durinal (up during the day) being, our bodies biologicaly crave sleep betwen those hours more than it does durnig any othertime of the day. on annother biological account you're 17/18 ish right?

Some of your difficulty may very well be due to some of the harmonal fluctuations present during youre adlosent/teen years. As your harmones fluctuate during this time It dosen't juse cause physcal changes. Some of the changs take place in the brain as well, with every random spike that happens during this time of your life literaly throws bilogal clock off what had been intill then a reguilar pattern of of highs and lows. Studies on the brain have shown that some parts of your brain double or tripple their activty, while others very nearly shut off, or hve their function vastly impeeded, often this lasts untill a person is in their mid 20's, when the body finaly clicks back on those parts of the brain and settles into a regular cycly of harmone fluctuations.

Should problems presist see a doctor, ask about alternitive treatments, and see if you can be refered to a sleep clinic. if you should choose go to a sleep clinic, most insurances should coverit. Youll go there an spend the night for at least one evening hooked up to equitment to monoter you while you slumber. At the end of it they may beable to suggest somthing that could help.

My whole family has problems sleeping. Added to that, my boyfriend witnessed the horribly vivid death of a close friend in August, and has had problems sleeping ever since. So we both started taking Melatonin. Its non-habit forming, and works quickly, but well. You should have 8 hours to sleep if you are going to use it, because it really does work. Of course, there are different strengths, and the regimin can always be altered.

Melatonin can be found at any pharmacy, Wal-Mart, or shopping center in the health aisle. Get the smallest dose they have (usually 1 mcg) and see how that works.

*looks at the way everybody else gets to sleep* Um... I have sleep problems. But I seem to deal with them a bit differently. O.o I don't really avoid energy-drink style things, since I've had a coffee ten minutes before bed and I got to sleep the same as I do when I haven't had coffee. I do listen to music occasionally, but it doesn't matter to me what the music actually IS as long as I like it. That means I'm normally listening to metal--mind you, it's very quiet, though less to disturb me than to disturb everyone else who fell asleep several hours before. Um... I occasionally will take a shower, which does make me drowsy though not for too long. And I cuddle my plush animals. :3 Aside from that, I just lie back and enjoy the dark and the silence (if there is silence--I may also be enjoying the music), and start thinking. Eventually my thoughts will turn into dreams. The first few times, I wake up from them quickly because I forget that I'm trying to sleep. Then I fall asleep. :P This is over the course of between two and three hours, though, so I guess it wouldn't help anybody else. I just sleep in to make up for the difference. It's gotten me termed nocturnal, since I have gotten up at two pm before and gone to sleep the same time most people get up. *shrugs* I guess I just ignore the brain's hard wiring, which will probably come back to bite me when I get older. But, whatever. I shall probably try some of these methods. :3

You know there are some random days that I get to the point where I end up napping in the middle of the day or end up dead tired for no reason. I can't sleep in either. 8:00am at the latest no matter when I go to sleep. But I think my little spouts of insomnia here and there are self induced from energy drinks and video games.

And I wasn't suggesting alcohol as a regular routine, I even pointed out that you shouldn't do it on a regualar basis. It has though on the occasion helped if I have a beer just before bed. I am by no means suggesting that I do this on a regular basis, its actually been a couple weeks since I've had another. But it does help me relax and wind down from a long day.

I suppose but still I wouldn't drink if my life depended on it.
Alcohol just does something that really messes up you mind.
I don't mind people that drink just as long as they don't get drunk, then there's a problem. I recall one time during the old days, my dad came into my school afterwards for no apparent reason and started yelling. Auroara had to use every bit of her strength to keep me from. Well,, yeah.
Any way guess what I'm saying is I absolutely hate beer.

Oh and best way to fall asleep, work hard eat right, and all that other garbage TV people say just to give us false hope. Little depressed now, thanks.

Regular basis or not, it still has the same effects. It can mess you up big time.

I still trust that if you're going to consume liquids to help you fall asleep, try drinking milk or tea. Also turkey has certain chemicals in the meat which can make you sleepy. I'd try all natural solutions before you take the big step of sleeping pills. I'm still sticking to my opinion that alcohol isn't healthy for sleeping purposes.
