This gives me an idea. With all the different views of dragons I think I might make a thread for that.
Heres a link to the thread.

Do you have any (valid) reason why any serpent like being should not be named a dragon? |
Maybe not any serpent but Apep in particular, so heres what I got so far I think that the reason for Apep being thought of as a dragon comes from the Greeks who got confused between Apep and Seth because they are very similar in nature (both gods of chaos). They also likened Seth to their god Typhon who looks more like a dragon. So originally I don't think that the Egyptians themselves thought of Apep as a dragon, but I could be wrong .
And I keep seeing on websites that he was a demon or spirit and not a God. Which is confusing since in some of my books he is described as a God. I wouldn't know about the South American dragons/Gods.

Do you perhaps know of any other Egeyption dragon or reptile like beings. |
Well there are loads of snake gods and goddesses and crocodiles. Here's a few if you want to see them and decide for yourself,
Ammut
Wadjet
Meretseger
Nehebkau
Sobek

I'd have to say that its due to the wings of Apep that are sometimes described. |

| I've seen it in two books so far. Dragons, a Natural History, and Behold...the Dragons! (the latter is a kid's book, so it may not be as reliable). |

I've heard of Ammut before, but I'll have to look into the rest. Would you like to write articles for these creatures you mentioned? You will be given proper credit for it. If not, thanks for giving out names anyway. |
