I've been noticing a lot lately that everybody has their own personal view of dragons. But all these views have been scattered about the forum and a lot of which are only hints or minor descriptions. So with no further ado I present a place where these views can be shared in a way that all can learn from and appreciate.

Aparently the other pic that I posted some issues may have rissen so here is a pic of a pair of dragons. These are how I view dragons to be although they could be plated a bit more but all in all you can get a basic idea of how I view myself.

In my opinion a dragon is any serpent with one or more non-serpentine anatomic or physiological characteristics, such as legs, horns, wings, feathers, hair, unusual bones and muscles (for a snake), fire-breathing organs, stable body temperature etc. So it is a very broad category actually. When I hear the "word" dragon the picture that immediately comes to mind is of a more serpentine version of the so-called Western dragon with a horse-like head, kind of like the SDB dragons I drew by mouse (masochist I know) back in 2006. I found them here.

I base my beliefs off of the information that I have gathered. When it comes to the 5 groups of dragons, I do not, as of this point, believe in neodragons or serpent-dragons. To me, to be a dragon, it simply must have limbs of some sort, even if it is just wings. Also, I believe they all have scales. I think that they can talk, and have way more than human intelligence as well.

Defining a dragon is very very hard. I haven't seen a description yet with which everybody agrees.
To me, a dragon can be many things. I do think the majority has wings, but not necessarily (eastern dragons for example). My view of a dragon is usually a creature with 4 legs and wings. I am very open minded though. There are so many variations I can't even hope to describe here. But basically, when someone says "dragon" I think of a western style dragon.

Because most people associate the word "dragon" with the traditional western, that is what comes to mind when I read someone else use the word. When I use it, though, I imagine it as anything that has ever been called a dragon. Serpents like the wyrm/wurm/worm, Jormungander, etc, the many species in western mythology, the Eastern variants, etc. Intelligence does not matter, since those found in myth can be anywhere from a "brainless animal" to brilliant.

My Nas has dolphin like skin, not scales. I suppose that's why there's a thread... different perspectives from different people. Wink

My view of dragons is pretty classic... of course I have a certain view of them in my head, as you can see in my art, but that doesn't make others' perceptions any less valid.

My view of what a dragon is is extremely vague-- for a reason. By deciding yourself what is and isn't a dragon, there's the potential to alienate those who use the label dragon to describe something different. Then again, I understand the confusion not having set descriptors causes, because I've debated on and off over the past few years whether I should even bother identifying as dragon, or just go my own way on it. e.e

In my opinion, dragons may or may not have: scales, wings, legs, fur, feathers, ears, fins, plates, skin, spikes, horns, breath weapon, intelligence, magick, two limbs, four limbs, six limbs, eight limbs, etc.
Example: my dragonself has no scales, no breath weapon, basic intelligence, and has a couple extra limbs than the 'traditional' idea of a dragon. Would I be classified as a dragon? *shrugs*

Like dfangd, my views of dragons are reflected in the art I do.

In my opinion, dragons are powerful, intelligent creatures. The hatchlings have no wings. They get them when they turn into a drake. In general, they have some sort of spikes/horns , with wings, a long neck, long tail, and long and powerful legs. They don't have a fixed form- they could have frills or no frills, webbed claws/tails, a variety of tails, and basically whatever else they want to have. Laughing

Basically, I agree with the post above.
