How is it that I have managed to write more then fifty pages of reports and yet have not gotten a single story book done?

Well, story books take a lot of time to make... how long have you been working on your story?

Have they all been separate reports? Writing a book means you've got to have those 50 pages of content all compiled together as one big thing.

Some people write books, some write poetry, and some write nothing at all.

Consider, many good authors take years to do that one book. The point is to be patient and take your time. You can't rush it. Then you only get a husk of what you really wanted to do. Tolken spent over ten years on the three Lord of the Rings books.

I myself am working on a book, but I don't expect to be done with it for some time, and I may even have to split it into smaller volumes, since I have so much content for it.

Well that makes me feel a little better darkdragon. I have only been working on this story for two years. Meanwhile going back and forth between stories. So far I have four different stories and non of them finished.

Dont feel bad--Ive been working on a novel since I was 15--Im now almost 21. And still, there isnt enough for a book.

Writing a book takes patience, dedication, and lots of research. So dont sweat it--you're not behind Laughing

In retrospect, I think I should elaborate a little on my first post.

Typically, when writing a report, you know exactly what is supposed to go into it. I only really have experience with academic writing, but in those, you have an introduction, which serves to explain your subject and how it relates to the current state of knowledge, then what you did (setup, calibration, tests, etc), and an analysis of the data to explain the results, and lastly, a conclusion which summarizes everything and explains what the results mean and/or suggests areas of future research.

Writing a story, however, you need to create, from scratch, an entire world: characters, motivations, political interactions, a storyline that makes sense... it's far harder to do that than to put together a report.
