50 pages? 
I've been writing since I was twelve, it's been nearly ten years now and I'm nowhere near publication. Fifty pages is a good short story, 200 is the beginning of a novel, and after you've written it all you have to go back to the beginning and do it again, and again, and again.
So, to reiterate what others have said, yes, writing take a lot of patience and a lot more work than people actually think.
