Just some pictures of the various critters that hang out in my back yard from time to time

groundhog

squirrel

merlin

Hard to believe this is in the middle of town not out in the country somewhere. I keep trying to get a picture of our local raccoon, but he seems to be a bit camera shy...

Those were pretty good. My house has bird-feeders on our back deck, so we get visits from a few types of birds (mostly cardinals) and, maddeningly, squirrels. @#$% squirrels... Mad

There's also an orange cat who wanders onto our deck and gets Weldon worked up.

I'm in an apartment, so the best I can do is a few lost birds and the occasional really lost grasshopper. d'oh!

Must be nice to see wildlife outside.

If you're having trouble with squirrels raiding the bird feeder, try switching to straight safflower seed instead of the mixed seed. Squirrels don't like safflower and won't eat it. Or try mixing cayenne pepper in with the seed. Squirrels don't like the pepper, but birds do.

You could also try a feeder like this. I use this kind of feeder for my birds and it does a great job keeping the squirrels out. Even the little baby squirrels are too heavy for it and if they climb on it, the slider moves down and closes off the feeding stations. After a while the squirrels completely ignore it even with the good quality seed and berry mix in the feeder. You can get it at pretty much any place that sells bird feeders. We got ours at Home Depot for about $30

Nice growing up I used to see deer rabbits and raccoons regularly. In fact I still see them fairly frequently on my walks. Eagles and hawks can be seen often a round here too; and sometimes during the day if you are out in one of the cities wooded parks you'll see owls thrushes sparrows and as many as three different varities of woodpecker. Closer to the county line though you may see vultures.

On that note I haven't been hearing the coyotes much even in the evening to early morning. though there have, in recent years been sightings/ encounters with them in the local parks were the coyote has made a really really close pass to a person or group of people with young children or small dogs, and two to three years ago there were reports of a fairly bold cougar that would roam into the city limits over by where I was living at the time.

Lets see dark and I have a Squirrel (a smaller grey one than those at my parents home) under our back porch and there is a local opossum that come times chills out under our front porch too.

My parents used to make Suet and it attracted all sorts of birds and big gray squirrels into the yard.

Yeah, that would be Buddy. He'll follow me around sometimes, so I usually pull a handful of stuff out of the feeder Dad has set up on the fence between our properties (yes, Queen and I live next to me parents Confused ) and toss it to him.

At least he's better behaved then the old crow, but the featherhead would retrieve small screws and nails off the floor and put them on the desk. I think he was giving us "shineys" in exchange for the feeding...
