Apollonius of Tyana, Philostratus
A really interesting article about an orater who lived around 140A.D. The link will take you to the section he went over about dragons in India. I doubt the validity of the writing but it's still an interesting read. He comments towards the end that he doubts anyone will believe him and his recounts. For some reason that strikes me as odd. When someone is openly lying, they don't point out that they wont be believed. So it leaves me to wonder.....is it really possible? I think back on all logic and it tells me no, but it doesn't stop me from wishing it was true and debating within myself its validity. _________________ I am trapped between heaven and hell. Stating that no one will believe the things said or told is a antique but very well known technique of discussion. It is part of rethorica and is used to convince a audience of a fact. The writter is succesfull in achieving that when a part of the audience starts to wonder just like you are doing now. It does not proove that the things said are indeed facts....only that someone is doing his very best to make you believe... _________________ - power is gained through wisdom -

Someone stating that they don't think they'll be believed may not be lying for suspect motives, but could still be lying somehow. I don't believe here that he's trying to impress anyone though, or else he'd have put more of an effort into that part than just half of a sentence. It may also not be deceptive; just someone saying what they really feel.
I don't believe dragons of that sort existed on this planet, based on the lack of chordated animals with more than four limbs. _________________ The statement below this one is false.
