According to the ancient Mayan Calendar, the planet alignment on December 21, 2012 will usher in the earth's doomsday.
Well as I heard, and especially KNOW, the planets will NOT align, and how do they come with the idea that if it happens, the earth = kaboom away ??? _________________ lolling around a lot ^^ |

Because some people are paranoid and/or like to focus on minor details and stress out over it. Im afraid of 2012 honestly, not because I beleive in it, I just cringe at what damage might be done in the panic that ensues our supposed demise.
I might also add that this whole end of the world thing isnt a firstl it's been speculated and 'predicted' multiple times and I daresay given about 10 or 20 years it will be 'predicted' again...though probably with less of a following. _________________ I would love to have you on MSN, send me a PM with your IM account. Indeed. Think about this: why did those scientist say they miscalculated the time 200 years (something around), because it's true, or to prevent mass histeria; only three years before 2012, huh? _________________ lolling around a lot ^^ |

Actually, I did some recent research and learned that the Mayan calendar ACTUALLY doesn't end until 4772. The units of the calendar are almost all base-20 except for one which represents the estimated number of days in one year divided by 20 into 18. The upcoming date is a parallel in significance (calendar-wise) of our "normal" calendar moving from 31-12-1999 to 01-01-2000. It's a change of the highest digit, in this case, from the 13th b'ak'tun to the 14th b'ak'tun.
On December 21, 2012 the Mayan calendar will tick over from 12.19.17.19.19 to 13.0.0.0.0. It will "max out" at 19.19.17.19.19 on October the 12th, 4772. If Mayans predicted the supreme end of everything on a specific date (however the heck anyone would've managed THAT), that's when it'd be. But I don't think it'll be any more significant than the arrival of the new year of 10000 will be, if our modern calendar lives that long. I feel a stronger leaning towards the creators simply deciding not to bother any further with more digits. _________________ The statement below this one is false.

Well, assuming the wiki entry to be accurate, Dec 21 (or 23) is 13.0.0.0.0, which also happens to be the same as the date of creation due to a cyclical view of time. In that respect, it's far more significant that the theoretical "max-out" date.
But yeah, I seriously doubt anything will happen, even if it would be very interesting if something did. _________________ To win against an opponent stronger than yourself, you must not be weaker than that opponent. - Takamachi Nanoha |

This should sum it up. Even if it doesn't, if you don't at least smile at it, you're just not normal. :P _________________ To win against an opponent stronger than yourself, you must not be weaker than that opponent. - Takamachi Nanoha |
