I found this rather sarcastic definition on urban dictionary, but in fairness of the site there was plenty of unbiased ones and even biased ones in favor of it, but regardless...

Sadly though... that does describe a lot of new "dragons" to the community. There's a very high turnover rate for a reason.
And the last part made me laugh, because not only is there supposedly an army of astral dragons coming to get me (for the last two years, mind you) but also a curse that was supposed to kill me back in 2/09. Apparently it and the dragon army are both lost. :/
And yes... supposed 'dragonkin' for both of those. |

I'd say that that does fit a lot of the community. There are, of course, lots of people who don't fit that description at all - myself being one of them - but, we've also seen many people come and go who fit that perfectly.
Some of the older forumites might remember the "Incident" a few years back, orchestrated by a few people who also fit that description perfectly.

This is about the only "dragon" site that I frequent besides SHDB, so I really don't know anything about the other "otherkin" communities. I also don't care either.
But the article is another reason why I keep my otherkin claims to myself. It appears that people pride themselves on giving other people the wrong idea of yet another mass of people (however small our mass may be  ). I would partly like that "veil" thing to be true just to see these people's faces when a bunch of dragons and elves start roaming the Earth .

If anyone's curious, I could make a YouTube video of myself doing this REALLY weird thing with my eyes, where I cross them, then move my left eye while keeping my right eye stationary, then move my right one while keeping my left one stationary.
The snooty and matter-of-fact writing style here indicates that whomever wrote this is probably the kind of person who'd be easily countertrolled (Internet term that I might have made up or might have been used before I started saying it; means "trolling a troll") while trying to annoy otherkin who're confused as to what s/he's so angry about.

That this was on Urban Dictionary is beyond dumb, as it goes on for far too long, and the length of it is just inappropriate for the setting. And even if it had been on an actual criticism site, I'd still consider it fail overall, due to what I said earlier about the writer's tone.

No, I think we're talking about different ones at this point. I vaguely remember one like that. Though there was one member (different from the one I mentioned earlier), who kept posting photoshopped dragons and things and claiming they were real. Was that the one you were thinking of?

I think I remember both the cases, and I was pretty glad that first one get perma banned. To be honest, I don't know what happened to that photoshop guy. (banned too?) It's too long ago, I don't remember.
Anyway, on topic:
Unfortunately, this is the reaction most people have against otherkin in general. It's just not understood, and it's great to troll. Funny thing is that sometimes the troll gets overwhelmed with reason. (there is a series of youtube videos featuring spiritrunner6 and takamizuna (business ninja). Although it's debatable whether or not that was traditional trolling.) |

I have have had a case where someone called Otherkin-men "crackhead morons" I disagree, but you never know if someone does crack or not.
