Why the heck did I keep forgetting to post about this? d'oh!

Robin McKinley's Dragonhaven is a fairly recent book that takes place on "Earth" during the present moment ("present" as in 2007, when it was written), and it's about a young man making history while growing up at a nature institute that studies dragons. It's written in first-person perspective through most of the book, and the first and last parts of it are written in what I'd call "0th perspective", meaning that the story is narrated as it's actually happening, like the book Grendel.

I don't want to spoil anything; just that I really really really recommend it, and if anyone here hates it when dragons appear in stories but, as a huge disappointment, turn out to be non-sapient "dumb beasts"... well, I won't say anything further here either. Just read it anyway. Wink

*sigh* Yet another book that shows dragons as non-intelligent "things"... I find that amusing, because if the writer believes that, and (If dragons are out in the universe somewhere...) reincarnates as a dragon, he'll be REALLY disappointed Laughing

But nice suggestion! Razz

Funny thing is that I've got that book, I just haven't gotten around reading it.

Trust me; just read the book and take my word for it. A certain set of plot twists build up before long. I personally was able to see the surprise coming from miles away unlike the characters who don't really figure it all out until the end, but then again I was actually LOOKING for it. So go ahead and check the book out. Green
