What do you think is the most common breath weapon? I say fire breath. _________________ Beware. I bite! |

Fire I guess.. But that's assuming dragons had breath weapons at all, otherwise I'd say: Bad breath. |

Most common breath weapon I think would depend on the main species of dragon living among others. However, maybe not all dragons breath fire; maybe even dragons of the same species have different "breath weapons".
Take arachnids (spiders) for example. There's many species out there and they all have a different venom in their fangs. Sometimes they might not have any venom at all, and they all vary in size.
If I had to guess, dragons might not have a breath weapon at all. They might have venom in their fangs or in their spikes as one of their defenses instead of a breath weapon. _________________ Blessings |

| I'm not sure about the whole breath weapon thing. Personally, I find it unlikely, but there might be dragons out there who have one. |

I say that i would depend on different factors. Traditionally people have always celebrated a fire breathing dragon, and so this is the most popular representation. In reality however, matters such as size, age, species etc would alter whether a dragon had a breath weapon at all. _________________ Those who watch their backs, meet death from the front.

I agree. I find it less likely that dragons have breath weapons than some kind of poison of venom in fangs and claws. The Komodo dragon has Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus sp., Providencia sp., Proteus morgani and P. mirabilis bacterias in their mouths; one bite, and you will die from flesh rot if you are not treated. Researchers published further evidence demonstrating that Komodo dragons possess a venomous bite. MRI scans of a preserved skull showed the presence of two venom glands in the lower jaw. They extracted one of these glands from the head of a terminally ill specimen in the Singapore Zoological Gardens, and found that it secreted a venom containing several different toxic proteins, known to inhibit blood clotting, lower blood pressure, paralyze muscles, and induce hypothermia, which then leads to shock and loss of consciousness.
So, even though nearly every civilization depicts dragons breathing fire, perhaps it was the "fire" of the poison they felt after being bitten, assuming dragons have the same kind of dirty mouths that Komodos do (and I tend to think that we had very dirty mouths). _________________ The salmon sisters: bringers of justice, harbingers of the smelly fish <* )) ><
