I sometimes watch Hoarders on TLC when im looking for something on tv. all Ill say on the tv show is it should of been called "obsessive-compulsive disorder"
In my book hoarding is more of a natural instinct, like squirrels collection nuts for winter
So on the subject of dragons most of the stories out their say dragons always have a vast treasure they hoard in their cave. I my self have never felt the need to collect things that are shiny or hoard things of value. I do desire great wealth but im sure thats just my human side as with almost every one wanting to be financially secure.
But I think dragons did hoard and my reason why they did was not because it was a natural instinct for them to hoard shinnies but because dragons knew that wealth meant power among the humans. so if they had more wealth than the nearby villages and towns the dragon could control the people in a non violent manor.
this is also going on that dragons were intelligent creatures. |

1- It is biologically implausible to an insane degree for any 6-limbed western style dragon to have existed on earth.
Beyond that, part of human nature is to be greedy, especially when dealing with an "outsider", be that a human from another group... or another species. A village wouldn't be non-violently controlled via wealth from a dragon... they'd kill the dragon and take the funds for themselves.
Not all dragons were of human-level intelligence. The vast majority of dragonkin believe they were from other realms, other worlds, or that the whole phenomena is purely psychological.
My own kind was human was sapient, but we did not hoard. We did not collect "wealth" of any sort. We'd pick up and keep something pretty for a while, but there was no real attachment to it. |
