| Hey, I know this is a weird question, but what colors would a dragon most likely be? |

My hypothesis on the subject would be that depending on the species of dragon, color ranges could vary from blending in with the surroundings to having displays of bright colors to attract others or intimidate rival dragons and or predators (assuming they have any).
As far as specific colors go, judging from most popular belief of how dragons looked like, their colors could range from blue, red, silver, black and colors in between. Like I stated before, a dragon's color tone may depend on the current environment it lives in. _________________ Blessings |

I have to agree with Serenity, it would depend on a lot of factors. For instance, camouflage would help during a hunt, or to stay hidden from predators. Bright color may indicate (at least on earth) that the dragon is venomous.
Dragons could have a very varied range of colors, but logically, it would depend on the environment. |

Its Hard to say, unless someone can actual say they were around dragons no one know can say for sure.
its all speculations but I dont think dragons used thier scale color for camouflage. I think dragons woudl hunt from the sky and surprised thier prey from above.
im not sure a large dragon could do a stealth kill. |

Why is that so? Even some birds of prey display camflouge colors and do a stealth kill. And like birds, not all dragons may have had the ability to fly.
Again, place a creature in a certain enviromnet and it will naturally evolve and adapt to survive. Some environments do not require animals to fly to catch their prey. And who says they ate only meat? Maybe some ate plants, and might mimic colors of predators that do eat meat, like many snakes and insects.
No one is certain how dragons hunted or what colors they displayed. But take a look a the world around, and maybe you can predict more things based on facts about animals on earth. _________________ Blessings |

| Large dragons and stealth: By "large" I am assuming horse-sized or larger. Larger creatures have a harder time blending in on land. Maybe in dense woodland (would limit or eliminate flight) but in any sort of open terrain, something 6 feet all and around 12 to 15 feet long is going to rather stand out. The best they'd be able to do is a falcon-type dive from the air, but because of the size and weight difference, that could be injurous or even fatal. |

It looks to me that the hunting styles of the carnivorous ones would vary hugely - for example, Wyrms would most probably hunt like snakes, the few Wyvern memories I have tend to suggest snatching creatures off the ground mid-flight. There may have been some rock colored dragons that just sat motionless until something wandered too close...
On a more simplified note:
Green: hunting in grassland/jungle areas
Pink: from the sky (apparently pale pink is the best aerial camouflage)
blue/green: underwater
Grey: pretending to be a rock _________________ Ranna, the first, the smallest bell. Ranna the sleepbringer, the sweet, low sound that brings silence in its wake. |
