Having never smoked i cant really say, Though I have heard that gum chewing dose stimulate many of the same areas of the brain that the nicotine does.I know at least one person who went from cigarettes to plain old bubble or chewing gum then weaned them selves off of that... I also know there are medications that block the receptors that respond to the nicotine and other substance in the cigarettes, and obviously having a support group(in this case your boyfriend) going along the path with you will certianly help.

For some cold turky works best well for others weaning themselves down slowly works better. I would suggest finding support groups either on or off line they may have more helpful advice.

Jaden I have been trying to quit smoking for a couple of months now. It ain't easy! I am trying to substitute vegetables for cigarettes. I have gone from a pack a day down to about 3 cigarettes a day.

This is my second time quitting. I used to smoke about 2 packs a day when I was in the military. And when I got out I met my ex and she didn't like me smoking and got me to quit. Then it was pretty easy. I used us breaking up as an excuse to start again and have regretted starting every day since then. If you stop don't EVER start again. It is way harder to stop a second time.

I have cut down a lot though. But I have also gained 15 lbs. I find that the hardest part of the day is when I have down time. When I get bored. So I try and stay busy. Or if I having a particularly hard time I go for a walk until the strong urges pass. Also having somebody to talk you down helps a lot. Come up with goood reasons why you want to quit and write them down and post them up somewhere where you can read them. Like a bathroom mirror or the refrigerator door.

Reasons to quit smoking:

Your breath and clothes will smell better!
You will save lots and lots of money!
Those that love you will really appreciate it!
You may live longer!
You will save lots and lots of money!
You will no longer be a slave!
You can be a hero to others that are still slaves!
You will become richer!
Those damn T.V. ads won't be so annoying because they are no longer talking about you!
Your children will appreciate it!
I know that you can do it!
And I will be VERY VERY proud of you!

Good luck to you!! Don't give in, don't give up. I am in the struggle along with you two. Let me know how it is going for you.

You know a few years back when i said I had a friend struggling with addiction don't you Jaden... keep in mind her's was to a much "harder" drig. but some aspects of the struggle are bound to be the same... anyhow if you'd like and if she's willing to share her experience with you would you like me to get the two of you in touch?

Yes her's was to a serious narcotic(meth) and she did pot for a while too; If i recall correctly she's been clean for a few years now. I know Icant do much for you or her on this matter except be there as best I can and to root for you. But maby takling to someone who's habit is was hands down one of the worst and hardest to try to kick may help a little....

Having quit smoking myself, I can admit it isn't easy. I still have some relapses, which Queen isn't very fond of (Hence why my locker used to have a bottle of mouthwash in it all the time)

Cold turkey is the hardest way to quit. It's easy to fall back, bumming cigs off your co-workers and such (guilty as charged). I gave up on the cold turkey and found some other methods. For me, gum and toothpicks worked well, though I'd end up filling my ashtray with sawdust instead of cigarette butts.

Sometimes, it's not the nicotine, which your body may build up an immunity to, but the comfort action of smoking that is so addictive. You become used to smoking to let off stress, even when the cigarettes no longer actually do anything for it. It's still a comfort action, sort of like a safety blanket, if you will.

If it is the nicotine, the patch or the gum might help. It will beat down the craving, and is easier to dose yourself off of.

Sorry, been busy!

I have effectively cut down. Yesterday I had only three cigarettes, and today I plan on having only 2. Im trying to wean myself. Dark, I think that I fall into the comfort-action category, because Im not having crazy cravings. I chew gum, even though it hurts my jaw to do so (major jaw problems after a fist-fight), but I also find that Im eating a lot.

Hey Jaden. How is the war against the oppression of nicotine going? Haven't heard any news. I hope that you two are doing better and getting better.
