(I searched these forums, found nothing)

Does anyone know where I can find the real Dragon languages? Differenciating by species of course. I don't know who I can really trust about this on the internet, but I can trust you guys.

Any info, or any leads, whether it be a dictionary, translator, or any kind of thing like those would be fantastic, and very well appreciated.

-Thank you

There really isn't a way to get a reliable 'dragon language'. You can honestly just create a language from scratch and claim it a draconic language and nobody would be able to tell you otherwise because there's no dragons to be speaking it. Without the dragons themselves, or even remote traces of them having ever been here, there's no way we can come up with a 'reliable' dragon language.

Oh, That's a shame. I guess I'll just keep meditating 'till I understand and can translate a few words, then work with the linguistics expert at my school to create a language around it.

I'm beginning to write a book, you know, one of those serious ones with 20+ revisions and the like. I want to have a language used by Dragons that is about as accurate as I can make it, and I don't want to make anyone mad. Smile

There are some people on the internet who claim to know real dragon languages. I find that very unlikely though, seeing that there are no dragons around here. Like Galadreyil said, you can just create your own language and make it as complex and detailed as you want. It's your work after all. Wink

After deciding to start making my own, I'm faced with a question. Do dragons have vocal chords? Did you use to? It seems like an odd question, but it's very important.

Traditionally, dragons can make noise, so I guess the answer would be yes. However, every dragon is different, so you should think of something that fits your story.

Vocal chords are only required to make pitch, Without vocal chords, you should still be able to whisper. Talking is restricting the airflow in certain ways using your throat, tounge, teeth, and roof of your mouth; this combined with pitch (created by vocal chords vibrating at a certain frequency) is talking.

Sounds like the english "g" and "z" sound are two examples of sounds that require vocal chords. Without vocal chords, they would sound like "k" and "s" respectively. As you can imagine, this makes a great deal when learning or creating a language.

Heh, I made my own language when I was little, and I still use it. Although I don't consider it draconic, I did call it Elvish. XD

Example: Ehil eht rehaet dias.
Translation: Like the teacher said.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but, to me, dragons would go: "Ararckaracka" Or "Grrrnarrknnn" Or something like that. Sounds like Chewbacca off of star wars, almost... XD But in a deeper pitch, truthfully.

Well, I guess dragons DO have a language, I just don't know how to translate growls and extremely low pitch barks and other sorts of sounds...

Have fun trying... o.o
