The Dragon Chronicles by Malcolm Sanders is now out as an eBook. It is based on the journal kept by an old wizard, who is sent by his dying king on a dangerous quest. He is commanded to take the king’s son, Prince Bandred to mentor him ready to take the crown. The story also has a strong female character in the form of a young peasant girl who stows away on board their ship. Once the wise old wizard realizes she has 'the gift of magic' he makes this girl his apprentice. The storyline has lots of discussions about life issues e.g.: friendships, peer pressure, relationship with parents. Lots of food for thought, about issues that they come across and ones they had never considered. It’s about courage and overcoming adversity.
An ebook is handy for reading, but if you can get a copy of the actual book it really is a collectors item. The look of the book is like a really old journal. With great illustrations, diagrams and specimens found on the journey and recorded by the old wizard. Looks like antique leather bound tome, so once read this book will look good on the shelf forever! |

I meant to post as soon as I had finished reading it. Summer laziness has officially taken over my mind.
I was really impressed with the look of the book and I was awed by the beauty of the pictures within it. The old book style really catches the eye when glancing over a shelf. The pages were high-quality and the artwork on the boarders of each page was pretty.
As for the story, I really did not find it that inspiring. I may just be a hard critic but I found the storyline a bit repetitive at times; they just seemed to kill one dragon after another until they reached the final battle at the end. The characters were a bit flat and the story did not really look at the personality of each character in as much detail as I would have liked. The female character was interesting and I really would have liked to know more about her; the prince too. The book also skimmed over the amulet that gave the wizard his power, and it seemed like an interesting object, yet they only explained that it held vast amounts of magic, nothing more.
Overall, it was a nice book to read on a sunny day, but I wish the characters, story, and objects of power had been described in more detail. _________________ All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you... but first, they must catch you! -Watership Down |
