Silver in the early days was an other-kin site Which leads to interesting questions from those who don't comprehend it. There is also the question of how are otherkin Different From Therians or Furries? how is this different and how is it similar to other forms of self identification.
On their wikiThe Otherkin Community tries to place this as simply and accurately as they can with a simple "Otherkin are people who identify in some internal way as non-human". For some its about past lives. For others they feel that some how they, their mind or their spirt/soul by some mistake ended up in the body of a person. Still others among both kin but more commonly among Therians and those who identify as werebeasts and shape-changers the identity is tied up with the feeling of a shift. These feelings can include feelings that your hands have become paws, feeling like you have wings, or a tail exct. They tend to believe they are part or entirely something other than human
For some their kin is fictive, meaning they only exist in fiction. Still yet others ID with prehistoric animals, or real world animals.
I have Notice Many in these groups tend to gravitate towards meditation, belief or practice of esoteric or occult, New age religions, Energy work, Shamanism and Animism, or beliefs with strong stances on such things as community, teaching and environmentalism. Though these hardly represent a full spectrum in these communities.
Now were Do furries fit into this mess (i don't ID as a fur) The furry community is often more strongly associated with Role play and costuming in the form of fur-suiting and mascoting, and generally taking on the persona of their characters. _________________ say hello! at zahz's keep;P |

I've noticed on those forums a strong bias against either furries or otherkin, best bet is just follow your heart and don't let those people get to you or tell you what you believe is wrong or outlandish. I've been insulted and stalked by a couple people from certain forums (I will not name the site nor the people simply because it's an individual matter that was resolved). Draconity.org has always been a great place and so has herpy.net. _________________ I am trapped between heaven and hell. My wings carry me upon the winds. Above lies heaven, below hell. perhaps I chould clarifyi: most people cant tell the difference between Kin/Otherkin, Therian, or furries this post was meant to start addressing that, as well as that some prolific members claim kinness to things that are only in video games, were as fey/ spirits, unicorns and even dragon like beings although technically Fictive (existing in fiction) exist within a broader and deeper fabric of human myth and /or their effective narrative. As such they often exist as manifestation of an idea or a concept. others speak of kin-ness to living or extinct creatures.
Few like me speak of Aspects within oneself. somthing wich is more common in whitchcraft and some times very old beliefs. for that matter so is shapechanging but that's besides the point
within these communities their are 2 major explanations that show up time and again for the kin and therians:
1 the feeling stems from Brain wiring.
2 It stems from a nonphysical possibly spiritual but still very intrinsic part of your being.
Also worth noting therians often feel like their humanity/ humman-ness is a thin frail shell of sorts, like they are all ways wearing a mask, and thus tend to self identify as their otherself completely. Otherkin by distinction almost always identify as human in flesh other in mind and or spirit
================================
I was making note of those who silver attracted. I will admit that some are snobbish and overrun with people clang powers and are clickish. challenging how one could say be a dragon a lizard a wolf exct... often you see the same in therian communities.
but silver has typically attracted Kin, therians, furries, rpers, as well as fantasy writers/artists or fans of fantasy art writing. furs and come to think of it therians may often be getting shot down in the early days as RPers. as they might write as their Beast self or sona as the case may be.
on that note we may want to tweak the rules or site description. while fixing and expandin our portals to include famly friendly sites that may be of interest to those mentioned parties
Also each of these groups seem to have a dwindling number of family friendly all ages venues to interact. they are liking quietly on tumbler as opposed to being on forums. with exception of artist and writers who have many venues of varying quality.
Draconity.org haven't been there in longer than sdb was down. silver though was my first such internet community and always a fav. _________________ say hello! at zahz's keep;P |
