Yes, it's that time again, a new debate is now open! Come one come all!
OK, abortions. (2 t's or 1) Your stand on abortions and the legalization of them or the lack of legalization. Lots of diferent views on this one, so it shouldn't be black and white.
My View: Choice of the woman. I am in favor of nearly all things of personal choice and this in no exception. As to the 'the fetus is alive' statement I saw that there is no evidence in any direction to say when awareness begins.
Remember, keep the debate clean, no insults, yelling, ect. _________________ The Lichen grows slowly, atop of a rock.

I am all for legal abortion. I think that the woman has a choice. As for how I've heard some people say that "some women should be allowed the right, and some not", it is really an all or nothing thing. Such as rape victims. Any woman can come off the street and claim to have been raped just to get rid of the fetus.
I agree with Raven that nobody has evidence to when awareness begins in a fetus.
Another thing, it would probably be more merciful on the child in many cases. It would help with overpopulation, and if the fetus would be born to unreliable parents than abortion would be the right thing in my opinion.
So yes, I think abortion should be legal. There are simply too many stupid people out there to make them all be smart and "safe". _________________ Evil truth-sayer of DOOM.

Yeah, there sure are a lot of people these days. I think we could spare a few children. Another thing I wonder about is that if they close abortion centers, then I suppose they better make way for more adoption centers. No one is going to want anything to do with their kid if they can't care for it, and everyone who wants one would rather create a life instead of saving one. _________________ Evil truth-sayer of DOOM.

I'm in favor of abortion. Bottom line, abortion has always been around in some form or another. Any female here who's despirate to not have a child, for whatever reason, really want to try to use a coat hanger to perform said abortion *waits to see any hands* Didn't think so. Just because you make it illegal, it doesn't mean that it's going to happen (hence debate #1). This way at least, the situation will be safer for the mother. (I'm for it on any stance, this is just one of the better reasons I use). _________________ "People who are easily offended need to be offended more often."

Im in favour of abortion too.
As Zyleeth says, a abortion choice for rape victims is good, overpopulation and if the mother knows that her child would be born with difficulities and knew she wouldnt be able to cope or knew the child wouldnt have a good life, then abortion could save a life of hurt and sadness for both of them.

This too - another good reason for abortions. |

I've got two things to add.
Somehow, this got mentioned in my lab the other day. To paraphrase the person, he basically defined life as brain activity. The embryo has no brain activity until 10 weeks into the pregnancy. It's your own choice after that. You could also go with the idea that the embryo is a strange sort of parasite, since it's unable to live on its own. Not the happiest way to put it, but it's certainly one way to look at it.
The other thing that I was thinking of after my original post is what would people say if the opposite policy were inacted, compared to what pro-life groups want. Let's say that you or your girlfriend becomes pregnant. You want to keep the baby. However, due to a governmental law, you were forced to have an abortion because you were too young/not married/ etc. I can't imagine that many people, regardless of their stance on abortion, would be too happy with a decision being forced on you because of a governmental regulation. _________________ "People who are easily offended need to be offended more often."
