Abortions

I'm not shure human tech can accomplish this yet but for a sort of strange compromise: The mother can get an abortion and the child will be grown in an artificial womb? Interesting concept....

As of the moment, most definatly not possible. Embryos can only be grown a short time in vitro (latin for in glass, so test tube babies). In the future, maybe, but that'll open up a whole new realm of scientific ethical debate.

I am not sure where I stand on the abortion issue. On the one hand you have women having babies that are born with drugs in them from the mother being an addict. Fetal Alcohol Syndrom. As a women we need to take better precautions if we do not a child at the time. I am just saying that in certain cercumstances it may be the better option, but not to overuse abortion as a means of birth control. There are also other alternatives such as adoption. You would be surprised how many couples there are that cant have babies. Ultimately it should be a personal choice, but I think other options should be explored before coming to the conculsion that abortion is the answer.

Well, dweomer teaches that a soul does not come to inhabit the fetus until five or six months into the pregnancy. Strange, but it sounds logical. Basically it is just getting rid of nonliving flesh.

If something has a heartbeat, isnt it alive? A fetus has a heartbeat that can be heard as early as four weeks. A woman can feel the fetus move in the six and seventh week. So I have a hard time believing that their is no soul in that baby until almost six months. At four months a fetus can be seen sucking and "playing" with its hands. Although I do not personally agree with abortion, and would never consider it under any circumstances. I still believe that it would be very unwise to make abortion illegal. Women would still go to great lengths to rid themselves of an unwanted pregnancy, risking their own lives in the process.

As to rape victims, we do not just "get over it", yes we eventually heal, but it is a long hard process, include a baby in that and it becomes harder. Feelings are torn between love and fear of this life. Questions of what will this child become when it was created by a monster. Then thoughts of the baby being apart of you also. Then when it is born, it can go two ways, you see a piece of you that you have brought into the world, or you see the rapist, and feel like you are reliving the rape. It is NOT an easy thing to do to keep a pregnancy from rape.

Yes I have seen the results, and it is horrifying. I dont personally agree with abortion. I think it is murder and should only be used under certain circumstances. I hate the callous attitude some take towards having an abortion. As I said before I dont think it something to be taken lightly, the only ones it should be an option for is rape victims, and no that does not make them a "drama queen", the mentally impaired, and those that a pregnancy threatens their lives. It should not be used for those that make the mistake of being irresponible and not using proper protection.

Yes I have seen a newborn, I have five so far and am pregnant with my sixth. As to the rape victims I am speaking from experience, it is the hardest and most gut renching thing to carry a child that was a result of rape. I can sympathize and not judge someone if they choose to not carry that baby. I absolutely respect your views, and they well presented. I am not saying I disagree with abortion being wrong. It is never "right", but in some cases it is neccessary. There have been some women who tried to give life to a child that was a result of rape, and they killed themselves because they couldnt handle it. They have special counseling groups for the ones who choose to keep them also, and sometimes that doesnt even help. I suppose it is a situtation that one would have to be in to know what they would do.

Personally, I sort of lean towards pro-choice, but having seen the trauma caused by rape firsthand, I doubt that a lot of women would want to see the result of that rape every day for the rest of their lives... Not to be callous or anything, but it took me so long to get my friend over her rape, and I can safely say that if she had gotten pregnant, having the child would have completely destroyed her: mind, body and soul.

Not to mention the medication she was on... the child would have been nothing more than a vegetable... if even alive at all.

I just did some quick calculations here, and though my math may be a bit rough, but it comes out the as chance of said fetus being seriously or terminally impaired is terrible: 95% at the least.

Even if the child was born alive, what quality of life would there be? The vast number of things that could be wrong are incalculable...

But ultimately, the choice is up to the woman... no one has the right to tell her what to do, for any reason: legal, ethical, or medical...
