You were speaking of destroying innocent lives, MagickalSparkles. What off the rappe's life? She not only has a heartbeat, which defines life to many, but an awareness and a family that will also be destroyed. At what point does a fetus gain that something, call it a soul if you will? And even if you consider the fetus aware ask yourself this: would you rather end one life before it truly begins or shatter an entire family?

Sad thing is, rape isn't something you just "get over". It almost always takes years and most of the time you don't get over it at all. And most people would be afraid to go to therapy. When you've been raped, you're scared. Everyone is a potential enemy if they learn about it. So most try to keep it all bottled up, becuase they don't want peopel to know. A lot of rape victims are made to think that it was their fault they were raped. So they see themselves as not being victims, but some kind of monster, so they don't get help, since they are convinced it's their fault...

Yeah, it's messed up, but that's what happens. It's not right, but that's what goes on. Rape is the end of a lot of lives, and it takes an especially strong and determined person to recover.

Yes, it is great how your mother survived through it, but her experience is not that of everyone. I have nothing but respect for her, but I've seen many other cases of rape, and have been personally involved in a few of those shattered lives. It's all different for different people. And most seem to die from it.

A fetus has a viable heartbeat at six weeks. To me it is considered a human life once that heart starts beating. Before that point it can be arqued that it is just a mass a cells and tissue.

If you do not want to have a baby, then use birth control!! If people used a little common sense and little responsibility for their actions than this wouldn't be an issue. Simple and yet so complicated to many.

You just stated yourself that it is a "living" hunk of material, although it nothing like a tree in my eyes. That tree will never grow to be able to "speak" or "love". Yes it is living ( and I am against all of the distruction of forests and such) but it isn't "aware" so to speak.

Alot of abortions can be avoided if birth control is used. I am not saying that women should not have a choice, but it should not be made such an easy and acceptable practice to ridding oneself of an unwanted pregnancy.
